Worship

For Lutheran Christians, worship stands at the center of our life of faith. We stand together in both the difficult and joyous moments of life, and we hear God’s story and celebrate the many ways God meets us and welcomes us in love.

Worship fuels us in hope and sends us into the world to lift up others through our mission to live, share, and celebrate the love of God with all people.

All of our other ministries emanate from worship. We begin all of our meetings and faith formation moments with prayer to center us around our identity as God's people.

All are welcome and invited!

  • 8 am - Traditional - Complete with vibrant singing, traditional liturgies, preaching, Holy Communion, and a children’s message, this early service continues our strong history of Lutheran worship. Music is led by the organ, piano, and a cantor or choir.
  • 9:30 & 11 am - Contemporary - Contemporary music blended with liturgy sets the pace for this relaxed worship. Led by a music ensemble including guitar, percussion, and vocalists, this more informal worship time includes preaching, Holy Communion, and a children's message.
  • Several other regular and seasonal worship opportunities, including Drum Circle Meditation, Lent and Advent Midweek worship, pet blessings, and more. Explore this page and our church calendar for more information.

The nursery is available during 9:30 & 11 am Sunday morning worship.

During Summer, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, we condense our schedule to two worship times at 8 & 10 am on Sunday mornings.

Online Worship

We want to make sure worship is available for everyone, whether they are here in West Chester or on the other side of the world; whether they can easily travel here, or if getting to the church building is too much. We strive to include our online worshipers in all our worship moments. We encourage virtual attendees to prepare for worship just like we do here in the church building: candles and water if they have them available to represent our candles and Baptismal font, and bread and wine or grape juice to participate with us during Communion. Worship is streamed on our Facebook and Youtube pages, and all of our worship moments are archived.

Children

We believe children belong in worship! All of our Sunday morning worship moments include a children's sermon, and activities are available to keep young worshippers engaged in the Gathering Space. Crayons, coloring pages, and other items are available for their use to help make this a family friendly experience. We also love inviting children to participate in worship through singing and playing instruments. This happens throughout the year through planned moments that are practiced, and sometimes spontaneous moments, too!

Praise Band

Our praise band, known as Grace Notes, leads music during worship at 9:30 and 11 am. Voices, piano, guitars, drums, and other instruments bring both new songs and older hymns to life as we support the message of the Gospel and lift up our prayers. During the program year, we rehearse at 7 pm on Thursday evenings. All skill levels are welcome from high school age through adults. Contact John at musicdirector@lol-lutheran.com

Congregational Singing

When we sing as a congregation, we use our whole bodies to lift our prayers to God. Congregational singing is the primary purpose of music during worship, and all are invited to make a joyful noise and let their voices be heard.

Blue Christmas: A Service of Longing and Hope

blue christmas landscape no date WEB

Sunday, December 21, 6:30 pm

For those who have experienced loss, the holidays can be a particularly painful time, stirring up grief in acute ways. As a result, churches around the world have adopted the practice of having a “Blue Christmas” or a “Longest Night” service during the Advent season. In the Northern hemisphere, this service is often observed around the Winter Solstice, which is the longest night of the year.

A Longest Night service is designed to provide space for prayer, reflection, and remembrance amidst the holiday hustle and bustle. We hope that this time can be a gift to you, providing a space of calm, quiet, and healing. Everyone, regardless of church background (or lack of it) is welcome.

Join us in person or online. The short service will be followed by a brief time of refreshments and fellowship.

Advent Wednesdays

advent image 2025 1

Dinner Church
December 3, 10, & 17
6 pm, in the Sanctuary
Dinner, fellowship, and activities for your whole family

Sign up for the potluck! Not sure of your plans? You are always welcome to join in at the last minute!

Luke’s Gospel begins the story of Jesus with this opening line: “In the time of Herod…” This detail may seem minor to modern readers, but it reveals layers of information about the fearful world Jesus entered, one filled with rampant oppression, economic disparity, uncertainty, and instability. A world not so unlike our own. And yet, throughout the stories of Christ’s birth, we hear the whispers of angels delivering a surprising message: “Do not fear.” Join us on Wednesdays this Advent as we center ourselves beyond our fears in God's hope. Our Wednesday evenings together will include a meal, conversation, worship, and activities.

Stop by our table in the Gathering Space to pick up an Advent devotional and calendars.

Summer Worship Schedule & Volunteer Needs

summer worship2 crop

Sunday mornings during the summer
Traditional Worship at 8 am - indoors
Contemporary Worship at 10 am - outdoors, weather permitting
Both worship services on site and online

Summer is here and so is our summer worship schedule! With our learning hour on summer vacation, we are moving our second service to 10 am to allow our tech team time to set up outdoors, weather permitting. Grab a blanket, grab a friend, and join us in the summer sunshine. Online worship is also always available.

Help us make worship happen! With summer vacations and moving outside for 10 am worship, we need extra volunteers over the summer. Please sign up to receive a weekly e-mail and/or text with the open volunteer spots. It's easy! Just take an open position when your schedule allows. All the roles can be done individually or as a family. Don't know exactly what to do? Don't worry, we'll show you! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
